It has never been easy for MCA president Dr Ling Liong Sik and his team to rebuild and manage the party after it was ruined by the power struggle in mid-1980s. It is easier to destroy than to build.

In the last 15 years, Ling and his family have sacrificed tremendously for the well-being of the party, the ethnic Chinese and the nation. Under his pragmatic and visionary leadership, many socio-economic and educational projects have been built not only for the Chinese Malaysians but also others. In the last general elections, MCA under Lings leadership delivered the crucial Chinese votes to Barisan Nasional.

Unfortunately, there are some MCA leaders and members who are not only ungrateful but overtly ambitious to the point of destroying the party and all it has achieved in the past 15 years. They are so unscrupulous and Machiavellian.

Unsatisfied with all the detailed explanations and clarifications given by the majority in the central committee on a gamut of petty issues, they now attempt to split the party further by calling for yet another extraordinary general meeting, and inviting outsiders to intervene in the domestic affairs of MCA. Where is their dignity and honour? Why are they so selfish and irresponsible?

At this critical time, it is important for all leaders and members of MCA as well as upright Chinese Malaysians to stand united behind Ling and his team so that no conspiracies, from inside as well as out, could ever succeed in splitting the party. Ling himself must also be firm and fearless in standing up against political blackmails, especially in the next one or two weeks.

Party members should stop listening to rumours. Patience and determination should reign so that the party elections could proceed in accordance to established rules, procedures and regulations as stipulated in the constitution of the party. MCA delegates should decide for the future of the party without outside intervention.
