I refer to the recent articles by Berita Harian demonising Singapore on almost every issue it possibly can  from the land reclamation to the recent Pedra Banca case.

Untrue allegations such as Singapore soldiers forcing the Malaysian fishermen off the Pedra Banca will only serve to fan the emotion of both Malaysians and Singaporeans alike.

Lets face it, does Singapore really want a war with her biggest trading partner? Likewise for Malaysia?

Not only Singaporeans but Malaysians also enjoy a comparatively high standard of living. Unlike people in the Middle East and other parts of the world where armed conflict is a daily event, Singaporeans and Malaysians do not ever have to know what it is like to have live bullets fly inches above their heads or the impact of a 155mm howitzer shell exploding metres away.

Both countries have been enjoying peace and growth since World War Two and it is silly that people from both sides will want to engage in a destructive war.

However, we all know the influential power wielded by the media. Poisoned minds will impair judgement and lead to irrational actions. Also, it could take generations before such a mindset could be eradicated, if at all.

The ongoing war between Palestine and Israel is a good example whereby future generations will continue to suffer with no end in sight. The conflicts could be attributed to their poisoned mindsets, each thinking that the other is trying to exterminate them.

Berita Harian is like a small boy playing with a candle flame. Extending his finger to feel the heat and quickly withdrawing before he gets burned. However, in the case with Malaysia and Singapore, both sides are at risk if the game is taken too far.

Many years ago, there was a science education programme on TV, What will they think of next? Is Berita Harian playing out this series in its unrelenting pursuit of making up reports against the interest of the bilateral relationship between both countries?

If the reporters run out of ideas or topics to bash Singapore, will they then see the thousands of Singaporean men as well-trained soldiers invading Malaysia? Some are businessmen who have set up factories in Malaysia and many are there to shop with their family.

These citizen soldiers are well-trained in warfare and weapons handling as Singaporean men are compelled to undergo national service. Should Berita Harian be alarmed and possibly call for a ban on all Singapore males from visiting Malaysia?
