The feud in MCA has been going on long enough and many, if not all, Chinese Malaysians are by now totally fed up with the in-fighting. So much so that in some form or another, we want to see a stop to all this nonsense, either by going through with the election process and letting the members choose who they want, or following what the PM has asked for,  status quo .

The call for Peace and Stability for MCA by our PM has many pros and cons.

The pros of this are that it will immediately stop potential candidates and incumbents from jostling for party positions. It should also lead to the end of open attacks against one another in the press. The level of animosity should reduce and party members from both camps can try to work together now.

The cons are that although this may be true, how long do we think that this will last given that the problems have not been settled to any degree. It would be like giving someone in pain a shot of morphine to ease the suffering, but when the effect of the morphine wears out, the pain returns, and could be worse as nothing had been done to cure the cause of the pain in the first place.

However, there is one major problem which this  status quo  prescription creates for which a solution may be very difficult to find. What will happen to the suspended Youth central committee of the MCA?

The functions of the Youth CC was suspended by the MCA about four months ago in the name of peace and stability itself.

They were accused of calling for an illegal EGM over the Nanyang press purchase. The AGM held in August last year led to the saddest and most shameful day in the history of MCA when it turned into a brawl, the throwing of chairs and utter chaos.

A Youth CC meeting held after that turned into a farce resulting in nothing on the agenda being discussed, the tables and chairs being taken away, the lights being switched off and doors being locked to prevent the meeting from going on any further.

What will happen to them now? It was thought that the elections this June would be a way to resolve the matter but if status quo is to be carried out, will the Youth CC continue to be suspended?

By right, it should be, following the logic that led to its suspension in the first place, which is for peace and stability. Will Ong Tee Kiat and the rest of the CC members accept this?

Another solution could be to let the elections of the Youth wing proceed from the divisional level upwards.

The parent body and the Wanita sections seem to be functioning without major problems despite their differences but not the Youth, so why not let the election for the wing proceed.

Finally, just letting the members decide may be the best prescription of all.
