PAS' proposed hudud (Islamic penal law) bill on syariah laws that threatens to flog rape victims 80 times for qazaf (slanderous accusations) and subsequently charge rape victims with zina (illicit sex) if they are unable to produce four Muslim male witnesses to testify that they were raped and hence, did not commit zina sets a dangerous precedence in this country.

The bill is cruel and unusual since it contradicts the very spirit of Islam as protecting and uplifting the status of women with the coming of the religion as known to ordinary Muslims. Allah is revealed to Muslims as being a most loving, merciful and just God which is contrary to the image of Islam that the bill projects.

Rape and incest victims will be effectively silenced from reporting the heinous crime for fear of being flogged for qazaf and zina since it is inconceivable that any rape victim could ever produce four Muslim male witnesses. Thus, PAS' hudud bill is really a licence to rape in the PAS-land and is fodder to the Western media to portray Islam as a religion of misogynists.
