I have been observing the recent development in Puteri Umno and have come to the conclusion that artistes — the high-profile ones who were in and out of the party — should leave politics alone. These Malaysian artistes just do not have the stomach for politics and to be involved in nation building.

They may be good, sincere or even capable people, but politics is just not their game. There may be one or two of them who are politically inclined, cultured and have got the leadership qualities, but they are the exception.

Politics is for people with the guts and feeling to struggle for a cause and be passionate about nation building. Our artistes are people in a different category altogether, quite unlike those in the United States or India for that matter.

Puteri Umno may be looking for a new perspective in Malaysian politics, but Erra Fazira, Erma Fatima or Sabrina just do not cut it. The party has to look for artistes who are more convincing. What role model are these artistes trying to portray for our new generation?

Sabrina is a co-owner of Hard Rock Caf but what else does she have to be a role model? Similarly, Erra Fazira or Erma Fatima are too mired in their own problematic personal life to have time for politics. Leave politics to the politicians. Politics in Umno is dramatic enough as it is.
