With due respect, I must say that it is a little naive for OR in the letter Investigate police lawlessess to expect Suhakam, the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) and Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) to investigate the police force for corruption.

The reason is simple: Suhakam, IRD and ACA are not independent or disinterested bodies in the existing political status quo . On the contrary, they are part of the system.

IRD is under the Finance Ministry whose minister is none other than Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad himself. ACA has always been under the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister's Department. Both IRD and ACA are under Mahathir who had been the Home Minister (until 2000) which controls the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).

As for Suhakam, it is also not independent but under the jurisdiction of the Foreign Ministry which is ultimately answerable to the Cabinet headed by, again , Mahathir.

The only way to combat corruption is to elect an even stronger opposition in Parliament to check on the Cabinet and the prime minister. We need to, at least, deny the two-third majority of Barisan Nasional in the coming general election, and to inflict heavy political casualties on Umno in Kedah and Johor.
