Long after Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's infamous Merdeka speech about Chinese Malaysians being communists, I thought he has learnt a useful lesson and decided to act like a good PM as reflected by some of his speeches lately.

Alas, how wrong I was. His statement about non-Malays being foreigners at the 56th Umno anniversary do in front of his members has again shown his true colours. My once-admired PM is nothing more than an opportunist himself. He chooses the right words to use at the right time to score political points for himself and cares not if they contradict what he has said previously.

As a Chinese Malaysian, I am now convinced that Mahathir is, at best, a good PM for the Malay Malaysians only, and cares only for their rights. He is a role model for all other Umno leaders to follow. So can we ever be serious about national unity when such blatant disservice is being done to other Malaysians?

Right-thinking Malaysians — including some of my Malay friends who have become PAS and Keadilan supporters — do not see him as a good leader even for the Malays! So, can Mahathir ever be proud of being the longest serving Malaysian prime minister?
