Ex-top cop now a billionaire?
I am very surprised to read that former police chief Haniff Omar owns more than 600 millions shares in Maxis Corporation Bhd. The information was on page five of the Maxis initial public offering prospectus today.
I called the company, and the officers who answered my call verified that the information in the prospectus was correct though they knew nothing more about the subject.
My question is how can a retired top policeman own so much asset. Even if the price is 10 sen each, the total share value is more than RM6 million, at RM1 per share, it is more than RM600 million and at RM4.80 per share, it is RM2.5 billion.
I can only say this is very extraordinary. What do the Securities Commission and Bank Negara have to say about this? What is Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad going to say about this?
I do not believe for a second that a retiree can be working that hard to earn that amount of money, at least in Malaysia.
