I am a Singaporean writing in response to Fairplay's letter Bumi-bashing has to stop (June 15). While I don't want to comment on the writer's views on discrimination in Malaysia, his or her comments on Singapore is uncalled for.

Malay Singaporeans are proud of their achievements because they did it under a widely acknowledged meritocractic system. Like many ill-informed Malaysians, the writer refuses to believe that Malay Singaporeans can and have succeeded despite the meritocractic system.

At any rate, there is no need for the writer to drag Singapore into a purely domestic issue for Malaysians to decide. Please don't use Singapore as a bogeyman again.
