Reading the letter Educator's demand illogical makes me sick. Kesatuan Guru-guru Melayu Malaysia Barat (KGMMB) or West Malaysia Teachers' Association president Dr Abdul Rahman Daud's proposition that private colleges reserve 10 percent of their places to bumiputra students and exempt them from paying fees is shocking .
A private college is like any business organisation. Its main aim is to make money. If it were to give 10 percent of their places free of charge to bumiputra students, how is the college going to make up for their lost revenue?
Anyone can tell you that the college will definitely recoup the lost revenue by increasing the tuition fees of the students.
Thus the non-bumiputra will again end up the losers, having to subsidise the education of the bumiputra even in private colleges.
It is time to put an end to the welfare mentality and spare the great number of parents who have toiled and sweat to save just enough for their children's education from any more hardships. They are already straining their already very tight budget to give their children a good education and head start in life.
