I'm totally agree with Dr Mana in Education merits better policies about how Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia or STPM is of much higher standard than of matriculation as the university admission examination. The logic is all true and best if implemented in our education system.

After I ponder for a while, the 'reality' struck me. In Malaysia, where protectionism and politics permeate every single corner of the country, fairness will be the last thing on the list. Politicians, in their bid to champion the rights of one race, have ignored the rights of others.

If we have only one entrance examination — say STPM — to our public universities, I fear the authorities might lower the standard. I mean, at least STPM still has a credible standard as a public examination and is recognised as one of the tougher tests in the world. It means Malaysian STPM holders still have some credence left.

If we implement a single standard public examination for public universities admission just to bring its standard down, we better think twice before doing it. I'm not against integration and better quality of education in our country, but I'm merely realistic about the situation.

Preserve the quality of the STPM (and maybe SPM) examinations as the last line of credible public examinations in Malaysia.
