MCA better served by new leadership
I refer to the letter Changing of the guards overdue (July1).
We must applaud Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for wanting to retire while he is very much needed and popular among Malaysians and Umno members in particular. But you cannot say likewise for MCA president Dr Ling Liong Sik.
From what I read in your webpages, he does not command the respect of many MCA members anymore. The party is suffering from indiscipline with members throwing chairs at each other and fist-fighting during meetings. The latest incident is the slapping of one female member by another at the recent annual general assembly.
These occurrences can be likened to a football match where the referee could not control the players. The only remedy to such a situation is to change the referee. In this case Ling is like the referee and hence should gracefully step down so that MCA can hopefully be rejuvenated under a new leader.
