Following last week's shocking public attack by one judge on another, I would like to suggest that the whole process of appointing judges be reviewed. We should look to the US whose Senate and Congress have public hearings on Supreme Court nominees of the president.

The Dewan Rakyat has to play an effective role in this process and stop malingering during parliamentary sessions. Ultimately the people are also to blame for being apathetic about elected reps.

The final responsibility for the poor calibre of our judiciary is, of course, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad himself, for the executive attack on the judiciary in 1988.
