Jimmy Wong's letter on the sorry mess that the English Language is in Malaysia was very well argued and I agree with him entirely. However, the politicisation of the issue will definitely see to it that Malaysians are going to gradually lose out on the international scene, if they do not become more proficient in using English.

When politicians interfere in areas where they have very little competence but plenty of power without responsibility, then there is very little the ordinary man on the street can do about it.

As a former English language teacher from Malaysia, now living and working in Denmark, I see bi-lingualism or even tri-lingualism as being a gift rather than a burden in the 21st century.
