I refer to the AFP report Malaysia sticks to plan to teach in English despite Chinese protest

With due respect, I must say that the report is lop-sided, biased and not professional.

The report certainly conveys the wrong and misleading impression that only Chinese Malaysians are opposing the proposal to change the medium of instruction of Science and Mathematics to English in all primary schools next year.

The truth of the matter is that Malay-based opposition parties like PAS and Keadilan is also against the proposal. As reported by malaysiakini in Malay groups join Chinese educationists in reacting language switch by YS Tong, 13 Malay non-governmental organisations including Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka and Abim also rejected the proposal.

Many Tamil educationists are also up in arms against the language switch in the two subjects

No one is against the English language and the improvement of its standard. What Malays, Chinese, Indian and other Malaysians are against is the method or ways and means proposed by Umno.

The AFP report has clearly been unduly influenced by the black propaganda of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's mass media.

I hope prestigious foreign news agencies like AFP would improve its standard of reporting by first listening to all sides of the story, instead of just lazily relying on the official sources and version of the controversy.
