I agree with A Malay Father's letter Bravo to the education defenders that Umno no longer has the intellectual vitality and political courage to debate such an important issue as the language switch in Science and Mathematics in primary schools.

Some people just join the party to clutch on to business opportunities and academic promotion, while the grassroots are too conservative to make decisions to leave the party.

Everybody, perhaps like their leaders, is just marking time or waiting for the next election when money will be distributed and circulated. There isn't any creative or constructive ideas in Umno anymore.

However, fortunately, Umno is no longer the only Malay/Muslim party. There are PAS and Keadilan. The other 60 percent of the Malays are active in thinking and debating the issue, although they are blacked out by the official media.

Malays can now debate and think about issues without going through the ruling political party anymore. We have not only PAS and Keadilan, but also our own social, cultural, religious and cyber-networks.

By projecting that only Chinese Malaysians oppose the language switch, the official Malay media are either trying to deceive others, or deluding themselves. There is also the possibility that by trying to make MCA and Gerakan the bad guys, Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian were trying to delude and mislead the grassroots and even top leaders of Umno who only read the 'party organs'.

Umno, Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian are, however, fully entitled to continue fantasising about their absolute control over the Malay minds.
