In response to Berayun's letter Islamic criminal laws tight enough to nab rapists , I wonder why all this incrimination between fellow Malaysians is needed.

Just think logically of the whole situation of trying to implement Islamic law in this country. I think the real issue here is for the party that support Islamic laws to prove that it is better than the current law.

But please do not insult everybody's intelligence by insisting that Islamic law is God's law, thereby not open to debate.

Berayun's statement 'Punishment under takzir for rapist may not be as harsh as hudud, and it's up to the judges or lawmakers to code this aspect of Islamic criminal law' speaks for itself. So the issue of Islamic Law is divine is a non-issue, unless Berayun is wrong off course.

Just like any law — Islamic, Christianity, secular or whatever — it is coded by man. However, the hypocrisy of having two levels of punishment, two different processes of law for a single crime has a taste of injustice in it.

This in itself is already a crippling argument against this form of wholesale implementation of Islamic law.

I am more in favour of a smarter way of doing things in parcel. In the event that some form of merits are found in Islamic law as compared to the present system, isn't it in everyone's interest to just slot these into the present system. That will have the same effect as providing justice under the Islamic system without the hoo ha .
