Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Dr Rais Yatim is swift

in wanting to take action on Terengganu Menteri Besar Abdul Hadi Awang's statement that he had received information about Budget 2003 from Finance Ministry senior officials.

This is based on newspaper reports that are usually regarded as 'hearsay' unless fully ascertained.

Umno-backed and -controlled papers have been known to twist statements by opposition leaders.

One sorry incident involved Keadilan Youth leader, Mohd Ezam Mohd Nor who was said to have a box of 'sensitive' documents that caused him to be arrested.

When his case was finally brought to court, the prosecutors could not back the charge and he was relieved of it by the court.

This is being repeated in the Abdul Hadi incident. And Rais was swift on the uptake.

On the other hand, no action has been taken against his colleagues, namely International Trade and Industry Minister Rafidah Aziz and former Melaka menteri besar Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik who are the focus of the Anti-Corruption Agency documents exposed by Ezam, for which is is now serving a two-year jail term.

Why is Rais not taking any notice of this?
