I find the article Opposition parties intimidating students in UK, says MSD director very disturbing. Being an ex-postgraduate student-cum-Hizbi representative myself, I find all his allegations a blatant lie. The article and Kamaruddin's letter do not reflect his doctorate level of education.

All the allegations about the students involved in a car accident being ordered by Hizbi to keep it a secret was a total lie. I visited the students immediately after receiving the news and we never gave such an order! In fact, many Malaysians visited the students and gave them moral support and donations. The fact that the Malaysian Student Department only learnt about the accident very much later just shows how pathetic the department was.

The allegation about the so-called 'brainwashed' female medical students in Ireland is just another silly Umno propaganda. Many know that never happened and there is no reason why it should happen.

Many Hizbi members excelled in their studies in all professional courses including medicine, law, accountancy and others. Many female students were among them, including two sisters who scored a first-class honours degree and made the news in local newspapers.

Kamarudin's declaration of his Umno membership only goes to show his true colours. As a government servant, one can have a political affiliation but declaring it so publicly is an insult to the MSD as a whole.

The political bias is obvious when Umno political leaders hold student gatherings. I was very surprised when Kelab Umno members from Cardiff approached me to come for the 'Mahfuz-Anuar Musa' debate in Manchester, saying that there were a lot of Chinese Malaysians studying in Wales.

What shocked me were the vibes of hatred and racism coming from these Kelab Umno members. Whenever Umno leaders were around in the UK for reasons which I never knew, I could feel racism and hatred running high.

It was good to hear that Hizbi and other students organisations were involved in the planning of 'Wacana Kemerdekaan' in order to promote integration among Malaysian students without any political bias or prejudice.

But to hear that the programme was called off due to interference from MSD is very sad but hardly surprising ... dulu, kini dan selamanya (then, now and always)!
