Malaysia boleh blockbuster in the making
It has been really interesting to see the stunts pulled once again by Ummi Hafilda Ali for publicity's sake. Only this time, she also bites the very hand (Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's, that is) that had fed her.
Even though Puteri Umno chief Azalina Othman Said's credibility has been tarnished big time, it is a total embarrassment to see how Mahathir and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi have come to her defence. As premier-in-waiting, Pak Lah's performance has been more than disappointing mainly in the handling of the recent ISA court ruling and now the Puteri Umno issue.
I am sure ex-deputy premier Anwar Ibrahim is laughing at the moment and senior lawyer Karpal Singh is enjoying every moment of this new scandal. Malaysians no longer need to depend on Hollywood and Bollywood for potboilers to entertain us. We have a world-class blockbuster reeling right before us — a Malaysia boleh production!
Still, it will be very interesting to watch if Azalina will be found guilty and what her legal sentence will be in the very slim chance she is convicted. Anwar was jailed nine years for something that was hardly proven. Perchance, Azalina and Anwar may end up being prison mates in the near future.
And there is yet another cliff-hanger — with the way things are going and Ummi being the 'lallang' that she is, one can never guess which side she will bend towards in the end.
