I refer to Uncle Yap's letter Muddled over water talk .

In my opinion, Singapore will eventually move away from dependence on Malaysian water because dealing with the Malaysian authorities on this issue will always be a problem. We may negotiate for a price and quantity now, but sometime down the road, history may repeat itself and Malaysia will make new demands to review or seek ways to change the agreement.

Singaporeans had better get used to the idea of drinking a mix of desalinated water, treated surface runoff water and Newater, and possibly at a higher price. Personally, I have no problems with this. It is the price of living in Singapore and being a Singaporean. The majority of Singaporeans will, I am sure, take this in their stride.

Malaysians may make fun of us having to drink jamban chooi (toilet water), but I suspect someday we will have the last laugh.
