Barisan Nasional Service, a great idea?
Once again, we are being entertained to another round of the follow-the-leader farce. The latest is about the national service. All it takes is someone to come out with an idea, good or bad, and a load of sycophants will jump on the bandwagon to say as loud as they can how great the idea really is.
But up till now, can anyone say for certain what the national service is all about? Can someone out there tell me, what is the purpose, who are those involved, what is the nature of this national service, how long is the duration, where will the recruits be housed, who are the trainers, etc?
So let it not follow the route of the English language issue. It started out as a great idea to improve our standard of English, but see what has happened. The whole thing has been twisted around and the way to raise the standard of English now appears to be a question of merely using it as a medium of instruction for teaching Science and Maths. A great idea, huh?
Will the same thing happen to national service? It sounds like a great idea, but before we say this, can we be sure first that we are all talking about the same thing? Will it somewhere along the way become Barisan Nasional Service instead?
