Dumb politico makes Malaysians inferior
Goodness, Brad Pitt responsible for the Asian inferiority complex? Next, he'll be blamed for marriage breakups, lower productivity and lower economic growth.
So is Brad Pitt's 'crime' serious enough to fall under the Internal Security Act for causing Asian and national 'insecurity'? Will there be a ban on video hits and Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham because they make men and women feel 'inferior'?
Malaysian men are not so insecure that they have to be 'protected' from Brad Pitt, precisely because "our own people are handsome". I agree our advertisements have their problems — dark-skinned people, for example, are almost never well-featured in advertisements as dark beauties.
However, why insult the intelligence of men and women in this country by thinking we are so shallow as to construct our complex around Brad Pitt's image? I certainly believe in having a range of images on TV that promotes plurality of Malaysian faces (which include Caucasian men and women, incidentally) but banning the advert is a joke.
The Asian inferiority complex has more to do with the fact that we are taken for fools and not given the democratic space to think. Treating Malaysians like idiots through the excessive use of censor-happy scissors and mind-numbing instruments, and having to listen to dim-witted statements from politicians... these create inferior Malaysians.
Okay, now tell us — what's the real reason for taking the advert off?
