I find Umno vice-president Muhammad Muhd Taib's confidence that Umno will regain Malay Malaysian support rather amusing and incredible. Either Mat Tyson (his nickname) is day-dreaming or Malay Malaysians are becoming more politically illiterate.

He says that Barisan Nasional may lose Chinese Malaysian votes due to some unpopular decisions affecting them such as the use of English to teach Mathematics and Science in all schools, vernacular included, next year.

But surely Malay Malaysians, too, can't be too happy with BN's high-handed actions in the past years? The language switch didn't go down well with them either. Another issue affecting them is the amendment that now allows Malay reserve land to be developed more freely by non-Malays. Umno has also recently decided to stop supporting Sekolah Agama Rakyat and may even close them all.

With these betrayals against Malay Malaysians, Mat Taib must be daydreaming about having won back their support.
