I hope that our government will rebut the contents of the just released correspondence between the Malaysian and Singapore governments relating to the water and other issues. It is no use if Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar makes feeble responses or just accuses Singapore of acting in bad faith.

Most people reading the letters would conclude that Singapore has a persuasive case and that Singapore has not been 'unreasonable'. It is the duty of our foreign minister if he feels that Malaysia has a case to state it clearly and eloquently by presenting opposing evidence or arguments and not make inarticulate and incoherent comments.

If Malaysia has no case, be gracious enough to admit it and move o­n. Relations between the two countries are far too important to be derailed by these issues.
