With reference to the letter Of rumours and lousy English teachers

, one must remember that the government has an agenda of sending as many bumiputra students as possible to institutions of higher learning.

Many are excellent students but there are the unfortunate few who are "half-baked". But these are the ones who are needed to fill up the government quota.

Then again, it does not mean that the government would be able to get excellent English teachers from the non-bumiputra population.

Firstly, not many want to be educators and secondly, the standard of English in Malaysia is not excellent (though we are much better than many other countries in Asia).

Let's face it, it is an uphill task for the government to improve the standard of English in this country.
