TFP's contention that the 'Security Council will no longer be taken seriously' after Iraq's non compliance with resolution 1441 merits a response.

First, may I know which part of the resolution has not been complied with? Have the inspectors found any weapons of mass destruction?

Saddam is said to have refused to disarm. What arms is he supposed to declare and why is the US not cooperating with the UN to provide evidence that it has all this while?

The last time Colin Powell gave his so-called evidence to the UN, it was a wild goose' chase for some international reporters who went to the scene and found some dilapidated buildings.

Worse still, if a war is to be waged based o­n Britain's 'fine dossier' of Iraqi WMS (weapons of mass destruction), then the world would have seen a war as a result of the thesis of a PhD student, and even that, was not up-to-date.

Second, may I know if Iraq is the o­nly country in the world so far that has not complied with UN resolutions?

I know of another country that has not complied with several resolutions, i.e. much more than what Iraq has been alleged not to have complied.

And this country too refused to let UN inspectors in, to areas that it had ravaged, leaving many dead or wounded. The UN had to back down, because its appeals were not being entertained by any of the so-called moral guardians of our freedom.

This country also is rumoured to have weapons of mass destruction, and has attacked its neighbours. Unlike Iraq, that surrendered back Kuwait after the Gulf War, this country faced a gutless 'international community' when it refused to hand back land it has grabbed.

I also know of another country that has declared that it has nuclear weapons and is not about to back down from its stance. It has even suggested that should the need arise, it can launch a pre-emptive strike against the US or any other country.

Would the Security Council be any more relevant or taken seriously if it does not take any action against this country?

I also know of two other Asian neighbours that almost simultaneously tested nuclear missiles just last year and the Security Council, or more appropriately, US and Britain, just watched from the sidelines.

Come o­n TFP, you and I know what the game is all about. The millions of the protestors who demonstrated last week were not kindergarten pupils.

Please do not ape the hawks in Washington who sound so virtuous and concerned for the world.
