Supporters of war in Iraq need o­nly to ponder o­ne point: If you have a 20-year-old son healthy enough to be conscripted in the military to go to Iraq in this Bush-led war, would you ask or allow your son to be conscripted?

If not, then you should not trumpet around asking other people's children to be in a war that has nothing to do with Malaysia's security or national interest.

weblogger Oon Yeoh to think about: It is o­ne thing writing about support for a war in which you yourself would not be willing to volunteer to be in the frontline in Iraq or volunteering your children to be conscripted, and another thing to debate objectively the consequences of war. No war is justified.

War is always the final admission of human failure. The compliance of UN resolution by Iraq as demanded by US smacks of whole-scale hypocrisy when Israel had not done so over the last 30 years, with the US vetoing over 50 times Security Council resolutions in the past 50 years.

As the French foreign minister aptly said at the Security Council o­n Feb 14 to the unprecedented applause from all the ambassadors in the council hall: "In this temple of the United Nations, we are the guardians of an ideal, the guardians of a conscience. The o­nerous responsibility and immense honour we have must lead us to give priority to disarmament in peace."
