I refer to Geoff Bray's letter Malaysiakini more biased than those it criticises .

From his biased comments o­n the disputes between the governments of Singapore and Malaysia, I would assume that either he did not read the letters of exchange between the two governments published by Singapore to set the record straight or has deliberately ignored the facts altogether.

Some of these letters were signed by Malaysian premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad himself.

As for the so-called name-calling, any leader worth his or her salt will not keep quiet at how Mahathir belittled Singaporeans as has been reported in the media.

It is very hard to believe that an elder statesperson like Mahathir will stoop so low as to pass sarcastic remarks o­n the citizens of another country just because there are some outstanding bilateral issues at stake.

He said in a four-eye meeting with Singapore Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew, he was told by Lee that it was Singapore Premier Goh Chok Tong who opposed the building of the new bridge.

But a letter by Goh has clearly stated otherwise. Goh's concern was that the under-utilisation of the second link and a new bridge will waste public funds. However, ultimately, he agreed to Mahathir's proposal.

Best of all Malaysia's Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar has stated that Mahathir's word is true as he was present - in the four-eye meeting?

The difference between the two country's leaders is that o­ne likes to shoot off his mouth while the other prefers to stick to facts.

There has been enough animosity between the two countries and if the truth continues to be shielded from ordinary Malaysians, more damage o­n the bilateral relationship will result.

If Geoff Bray is not convinced then he should check with the Malaysian media as to why the full text of the Singapore foreign minister's speech and the contents of the letters between the two governments were not fully published for Malaysians' scrutiny.

Singapore would welcome a point-by-point rebuttal based o­n facts.
