I am not trying to be petty, especially when we're living in such trying times with the threat of war and all that, but I have to comment o­n Oon Yeoh's 'conduct' in his Transitions

blog.

On Feb 26 he wrote an explanation of what he thinks the concept of blogging is all about. I happen to share the same idea of what makes a blog a blog. But while Yeoh was quick to point out that some readers don't seem to understand how a weblog is kept, I think it's fair to say that Yeoh himself doesn't understand that the concept of a weblog as he sees it shouldn't apply to Transitions.

I don't see how Transitions should be 'dynamic' and 'interactive' and have its contents changed at the whims of the author.

Thomas Friedman commentates for the New York Times , and his commentaries appears in the Times' op-ed section. o­nce they are published (be it in the print or o­nline version), he doesn't make changes to them, because he's not supposed to! The fact that malaysiakini is an o­nline daily shouldn't give Yeoh the liberty to make changes to his entries, especially when his weblog is not a personal journal. If it is in fact a personal weblog, there is no indication of that anywhere o­n his page.

If Yeoh wants to continue keeping Transitions the way it is, I think he should provide a disclaimer o­n his page saying that his views are his alone and are not endorsed by malaysiakini . Malaysiakini too should remove the link to his blog if that is the case. Otherwise I urge him to stop posting (emotional) replies to readers' letters to the editor. Doing so makes both malaysiakini and Yeoh seem unprofessional.
