The Umno Youth information chief, Azimi Daim, is nothing more than a foolhardy, impertinent individual who seems to be trying to get some political mileage by making statements

that are uncalled for, and if Umno Youth is going to be led by the likes of Azimi, I dread to think where our country will be heading and whether we can ever realise Vision 2020.

By saying that Umno Youth had nothing to do with the police raid on malaysiakini, he is behaving like a coward. Is he trying to excuse Umno Youth's action by saying that "our job is to do something when people challenge the agenda of our struggle"?

Azimi claimed that the Malays are the masters of this land. What qualities does he have to call himself a master in the first instance? He is planting a seed of racism and intolerance in the minds of many a Malay Malaysian who has been living in harmony with fellow non-Malay Malaysians.

Having political clout alone does not make you a master and neither does it make you more a Malaysian than I! I can boldly say that I am a better and truer Malaysian as I am in a profession which makes me see people from all walks of life and I deal with them all equally irrespective of their race.

Though I am a non-Malay, my love and patriotism is in no way any less than any other Malay. My ancestors may not have come from this land, but does it make me a lesser Malaysian? If Azimi qualifies as a bumiputera, so can I - born and bred in this land and with an unmarked grave waiting somewhere on this land too, and doing more than he is for the well-being of fellow Malaysians.

It is better for Umno Youth to take the road towards progressing with rationality and moderation rather than espousing animosity and arrogance toward fellow Malaysians. It is futile to hold demonstrations and walk for peace when racism and discordance is being sowed and perpetuated by certain irresponsible individuals, purportedly in the name of racial sensitivity which has become a cliche in our midst.
