Transitions: Be professional when rebutting views
I think Oon Yeoh is getting out of hand with the way he blogs. While I agree that the purpose of the blog is to air his views, and of course, defend them when criticised, Oon has not been very professional. Of late, Oon has been attacking malaysiakini readers with too much emotion and sarcasm. His attacks are detrimental to healthy discussion.
If this continues, malaysiakini is likely to lose quite some readers, whether its other content is good or not. Oon is a bad tempered blogger who is spoiling malaysiakini's image.
How do you expect readers to continue using malaysiakini as a platform for healthy discussion when sarcasm and rudeness is what they get for writing? The letters section isn't a platform for such discussions anymore. Any 'stupid' opinion will most likely be attacked by our blogger, whether the 'stupid' opinion is on current issues or Oon himself. If this gets worse, we will see only people agreeing with Oon writing for the letters section very soon.
In Oon's March 6 blog , he goes on to ask Wang Hok to get out of the kitchen if he can't stand the heat. For goodness' sake, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. I don't think Oon should attack a letter writer in such a way for airing his views on him.
I call for patience from both sides. Let's keep malaysiakini as a website interesting with various views from various people. Dear readers, maybe all of us can stop voicing our views on Oon for the sake of malaysiakini . Afterall, Oon is also being somewhat attacked by some of us. Let us all discuss current issues. Let us all discuss Iraq with Oon....and James Wong.
Now are you going to attack me in your next blog, Oon? You may consider my views 'stupid' but please be polite when you rebut me.
