It is indeed a worrying trend to read or hear about the active presence of triad involvement in Malaysian politics.

Although most organised crime triads have always had some form of protection of their activities through their contacts with officials, police and politicians (even in 'developed' countries like the US), the sheer volume and severity of this happening in Malaysia and being reported lately is astounding and in fact extremely worrying.

When politicians are pointing fingers about the existence of triad elements within their own parties, definitely something is rotten somewhere and you can be sure it's not Denmark we're talking about. When politicians' names are linked to police reports lodged by wives against their husbands visiting sex workers and when politicians start getting death threats for working against illegal activities, it is high time some of the rubbish being swept under carpets started being unearthed before the worms finished devouring the carpets from within.

The rising crime rate in our country is reaching a point which is unacceptable to the ordinary rakyat. It is even more unacceptable when there are accusations of triad activities being promoted within political parties. Whatever the reasons may have been for making these accusations, let us keep in mind the proverb that "there is no smoke without fire". Let us hope the authorities do not perform another clean sweep this time and dismiss the allegations without any action being taken.
