I refer to Tajjuddin's letter Foreign workers: M'sia o­nly defending its interests . I simply cannot understand what the "American-inspired war against a fellow Muslim country" has to do with the recent incident. Is Tajjuddin trying to imply that the recent action was in Malaysia's interest and a show of support towards Pakistan, a "so-called friend"? I don't think so.

As an expat with a Malaysian wife, the incident was of serious concern. What if it happened to me?

However, the writer's rather arrogant attitude was not surprising. What really shocked me was the indifferent attitude of some people around me, some even blaming the Indian IT professionals for staying together.

I also realise that many cannot differentiate between "unskilled or uneducated workers, and illegal immigrants" and "skilled professionals with valid travel documents". The police usually target the former not the latter.

Some facts: India has the second largest population of Muslims in the world after Indonesia. Also it is not India but rather Pakistan which has been an ally of the US since the Cold War days. Both Malaysia and India have a lot o­n stake to allow such an incident to affect the good bilateral ties.
