I refer to Opposing claims over incinerator technology and Japan's Ebara Corp wins contract to build incinerator and would advise the public that the deception and confusion has been going o­n for months.

I refer to the comments made by Kajang municipal council president Mohd Yusof Mat Judin as reported in Star Metro o­n Wednesday, Feb 5, 2003.

I am not sure whether I should laugh or cry at the total lack of comprehension o­n the incinerator issue as shown by the appointed president, or perhaps he was just taking the mickey out of the audience.

He claims that there is no danger arising from the incinerators as his team who went o­n a familiarisation tour of a similar site in Japan found it to be clean and did not pose a danger to nearby residents. He also said that even the lorries were clean and lined up properly when unloading the garbage.

(Does anyone really think that Malaysians will maintain and uphold regulations and standards as practised in Japan?)

He also said he will not be using the Japan incinerator model as it was costly, but will use the Taiwanese concept instead. If that is the case, isn't it unprofessional and downright ignorant to say our incinerators will be safe based o­n the Japanese model when we are not going to follow it?

Surely the familiarisation visit then should have been to Taiwan? Did no o­ne spot this anomaly in his argument?

On the same day apparently, the president also found out that residents could pay their assessment bills through credit card. Does he not know that other councils have been practising this for donkey years? All the Kajang municipal council has to do is sign up as a credit card merchant and they can accept any credit card transaction. Perhaps the Kajang council should have a familiarisation visit to DBKL or MPPJ?

Who appoints all these people anyway?
