It is ridiculous for them to not understand the basic issues that they are supposed to provide and promote.

When I was living in the Wangsa Maju locality, I hardly noticed anything wrong, hardly had a bone to pick o­n public services in that locality.

Since moving to my new house in Ukay Perdana, Ampang, KL, and coming under the Ampang Jaya municipal council's jurisdiction however, I see a lot illegal renovations, poorly maintained roads, poor rubbish collection and so o­n and so forth. It makes you wonder why some of the issues were even there in the first place if common sense had prevailed or if the rules were followed strictly!

Perhaps it's high time the system of appointing and evaluating positions and performances of such people be revamped if we are to move forward with the times. With the effects of Asean Free Trade Area (Afta) liberalisation coming soon, it's high time the public sector bucked up or else it'll not be able to provide the kind of support that the private sector needs in order to meet the challenges ahead!
