Kayveas' comments o­n Tamil schools has indeed touched a raw nerve and gained a lot of flak.

Though KHK is absolutely right in saying that it was up to parents to decide what is right for their children, he seems to be blaming the deplorable state of Tamil schools solely o­n the Education Ministry.

The Tamil community should also be blamed for the present state of Tamil schools for their leaders have failed to differentiate between the rights of Malaysian Tamils to have decent schools with proper funding and handouts from the government.

The present MIC leader - who has been elected again for another term - said he had a lot more to do for the community. How I wish he could list what he has done for the community over the past 20 years.

Is it still a wonder, then, why Tamil schools are in such a deplorable state after more than 40 years of Independence? Or is it surprising if someone like Kayveas said something which has some elements of truth?

As for now, we can o­nly hope that those politicians who have stayed for too long will seriously look into the welfare and state of the majority of Tamil schools instead of throwing a fit over Kayveas's statement.

All said and done, I do not believe that the Tamil schools will see better days in the near future - because the great leader of the Tamil community is still fighting for monthly wages for the estate workers.
