I agree with Pannir Murugesu that there is an urgent need to review the way the entire Anwar case has been handled. However, I disagree with him that the reprieve should come from Pak Lah.

It is necessary that the judges need to summon the courage to undo whatever damage they have done. When a layperson like me learns that the judges promise to hear a bail application in 15 minutes but later refuse to come out of their chambers, it is very, very sad.

When judges fail to uphold the very justice they are supposed to revere, then there is a gaping wound which will continue to hurt society for a long time. It is when such issues reach a point of despair, when justice within is never dispensed fairly and there is no way that the repressed or the oppressed will ever see the light that deliverance may be expected from outside - as was in the Iraq case. Let us hope and pray that the judges will summon their conscience to uphold the reverence their positions require.

What happened to those days when our judiciary was the envy of the whole world? I still remember the appeal by Harun Idris to the Privy Council which was thrown out in five minutes. Such was the pride of our judiciary then. Please do not wrong me for being so distrustful of the present judiciary. It is there for everyone to see.
