In lieu of wages, ministers get good perks
It is unbelievable that someone still has the notion that our cabinet ministers are underpaid. on paper, yes, as I remember having read that our prime minister is earning just over RM16,000 a month, much lower than any of CEO of an average company.
But once we take into consideration the perks that goes with the job, like a palatial home, executive jet and the power to make billionaires of people, then the comparison with other national leaders become invalid.
I would much rather our ministers are well-paid like those in Singapore, provided they come clean with integrity, accountability and transparency in their work.
In Malaysia, ministers become rich while on the job and this is acceptable. There is ample evidence of this but not to the ACA, as they need someone to make a report before they can take action. That someone is likely to get into trouble if he/she does. Anyone interested?
