Building a thermal treatment plant as an alternative waste disposal method is good for the country. It is a modern-day technology used even in green and advanced countries. I can understand the "not in my backyard" mentality. Wherever the plant is to be located, there will always be opposition. But we can't help it because the plant has to be located somewhere in the country, not outside. Our garbage has to go somewhere.

I believe our government is caring and responsible enough and would be as careful as possible so as not to put our lives at risk or harm our environment. We must have faith in them to solve our pressing waste management problems, especially in densely populated areas.

I had my reservations when the proposal to build the LRT was announced because the stations were to be located in my neighbourhood. I was concerned about the noise and other public nuisance. Now six years on, I have grown to appreciate the speed and convenience of LRT travel.

In any national project, the government and public must work together to make it a success. We ought to support proper waste management because it is good for us. Improper and unhygienic waste management could only harm our health and environment.
