It is good for the health minister to suggest tighter Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome screening for visitors to Malaysia. I visited Singapore last Thursday and returned the same night, driving a Malaysian registered vehicle.

Just before the immigration booth were two young masked men in front of a sign that read "Sars Screening". They had some health leaflets. I had wound down my windscreen before the booth and was waiting my turn. The two guys just ignored me and I thought "they may as well not be around and in fact were endangering their own health with all the noxious fumes".

Worse still, they gave a false sense of security to the health system and make us a laughing stock with such blatant negligence. Perhaps they are following the immigration culture of allowing the Singapore side to do the checking?
