I would like to commend the authorities for their committed crackdown on illegal VCD distributors, especially pornography . Such commitment is long overdue.

However I need to highlight an issue that has been on my mind. I am sure that there are also other, if not more important, issues that the authorities need to be as committed in addressing, such as snatch thieves and other crimes against the public, infrastructure issues like potholes on roads and lack of parking spaces, improvements to the traffic system, and so on.

All this publicity on their crackdown against VCD sellers makes you wonder if they are being picked on because they are easy targets. I am sure snatch thieves and those who break into homes to rob and rape are worse threats to the public than the illegal VCD seller.

And there is another point of view. If you put all those young men who are making a living (although it is an illegal living, it is a harmless living) selling pirated VCDs out of jobs, wouldn't it be possible that some of them may turn to more harmful activities like extortion, loan sharking, car thefts, etc? Just a thought.
