I would like to answer the queries aimed at the PAS leadership and their supporters in the letter titled ' Questions for PAS '. I am not a PAS official and am not posing as one. My views are what I personally feel the PAS party stands for and what is expected of an Islamist party.

Cultural diversity and religious freedom are trademarks of the Islamic religion. The Quran says, "There is no compulsion in religion".

Whether or not Muslims have a say in the political situation, judiciary or governing of the country depends on what is at stake. Non-Muslims cannot decide on matters pertaining to the Islamic faith which erodes the independence of the religion. An Islamic government will grant autonomy to non-Muslims to choose and practise their faith freely and openly.

Non-Muslims will never be banned from practising their artistic, cultural and literary heritage under an Islamist government. Non-Muslims will be allowed to read literature pertaining to their religion if they choose as long as it does not insult or slander. They can hold gatherings and

festivities which their religions envisage. The large statue of Buddha built in Kelantan is proof of PAS' religous tolerance.

Why would non-Muslims be subject to hudud and syariah law? If a non-Muslim commits adultery with a Muslim, only the Muslim is culpable.

PAS envisions a state where different races and religions are free to practise their beliefs and traditions without impinging on basic law and order. Justice and fair play are hallmarks of an Islamic state.

I believe PAS can forge an alliance with DAP - but not too friendly, more like mutual trust and respect.
