I am ashamed of the floods in KL on Tuesday evening. What was more shameful was the lack of information going round when it was most needed.

For those people who got stuck for hours in the car-parks of hotels, shopping complexes, offices and the traffic jams on the road without a slightest hint on what was going on, this really puts a shame on the government's ambition to make Malaysia a knowledge-based society.

Why was there no effort to disseminate the flood situation over the radio, when we have good know-how and many radio channels in Malaysia. But they were all busy playing songs and conducting those silly phone-in contests.

Why was there no effort to make use of the numerous mobile-phone companies to disseminate the flood information through SMS? Almost everyone owns a handphone now.

How are we going to make our country competitive if we have to waste thousands of precious hours in this manner? How are we going to progress if we can't even handle a simple task like this? Why talk about making KL the city of the future when we can't even solve the flood problem after so many years of ... talking?
