My sympathy goes out to those who suffered great losses and inconveniences during the recent flash flood havoc in KL. In most cases, I believe the victims may not be compensated as insurance will normally deem such cases as an "act of God".

However, could what happened last Tuesday be truly considered an "act of God"? If so, my guess is that God is probably trying to tell us something.

With the on-going debates on the power and jurisdictions of local authorities, town councils etc, the flood should open our eyes to focus on more critical issues such as provision of better service and infrastructure to the public.

After all, this is the fundamental role of local authorities, rather than futile and juvenile acts of trying to be the nation's moral guardian by arresting people who hold hands in public, etc.

Let the unfortunate Tuesday incident be a valuable lesson to us in our strive towards a 'world class infrastructure with a world class mentality'.
