I have a problem with the PAS Islamic-state blueprint which states that "the head of government has to be someone who believes in the ideology of the state" and that the prime minster should be a Muslim.

At the same time, it says the Islamic state is democratic and all its citizens are treated as equals.

Isn't this a contradiction? And doesn't giving the privilege of prime ministership to a specific group of people based on their religion constitute discrimination?

Wouldn't this lay the ground for future subjugation of other religions since - for Malaysia to remain an Islamic state - the government will have to maintain its Muslim-majority status quo?

If not, then what kind of limits are we going to set on the prime minister and the rest of the government so that this will not happen?

If the Islamic state is to have a non-elected body (ulama council) influencing the government or the PM, wouldn't this conflict with democracy?

By the way, in a democratic government, shouldn't there be equal representation of all parties and religions, as well as atheists?

I think that PAS should publish its blueprint as soon as it is done, hopefully way before the general election to allow the people to digest and debate the merit of its proposal.

They should not play the cunning game that Umno often plays - remember the bills are introduced in Parliament without allow the opposition time to prepare for debate.
