As I read the announcement of Ling Liong Sik's appointment as honorary life president of MCA, I cannot but feel embarrassed and angry by this charade - a blatant attempt at ridiculing the public's intelligence.

Most people would agree that the recent change of guard in MCA was just a feel good measure that has really changed nothing. This was best depicted in the cartoon showing Ling behind the mask of Ong Ka Ting's face. But now, they have crossed the line at making it blatantly obvious. Ling is still here to stay.

How can any party have a president and an honorary life president as well? It makes no sense. Who is the top guy calling the shots in MCA? And how can Team B stay silent over this? Or will they follow suit and push for the appointment of Lim Ah Lek as honorary life deputy president?

Even more terrifying: Is this a foretaste of what Umno will be doing when Dr Mahathir "resigns". Will he be made an honorary life president of Umno, too?

When will all this come to an end? Just when we feel the hope of some new faces amidst old problems and issues, the old faces come back - and this time, for life!
