DAP must follow their conscience and stop campaigning for PKR’s Kajang by-election candidate, Anwar Ibrahim, as this by-election goes against their principles of democracy, and is only meant to help Anwar become the menteri besar of Selangor.

It is an open secret that the by-election was held to resolve the internal power struggle in PKR between Anwar and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali against Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim. As such, DAP should review their support for Anwar, taking into account the fact that PKR had forced Lee Chin Cheh to resign as Kajang assemblyperson, as well as the revelations that Anwar had tried to manipulate the water deal between Selangor and the federal government.

DAP is clearly split on the issue of this undemocratic by-election caused by PKR’s disrespect of the concepts of democracy. For PKR to waste public funds by creating a by-election simply for their own good, it is clear that this election has lost its legitimacy.

Thus, DAP should follow their conscience and pull their support for Anwar. This will serve to teach him that he should not take the voters’ support for granted, as well as deter such unhealthy political culture from reoccurring again.

Many voters feel that they are now in difficult position as to who should they support. So why should DAP continue to make things hard for them when it is plainly obvious that this by-election is clearly an abuse of democracy?

DAP should wake up and open their eyes to this mess! If they are still unable to distinguish between right and wrong, between democracy and an internal power struggle, then how can they expect voters to believe them when they claim that DAP upholds democracy?
