The Bon Fire Team wishes to ask YB Karpal Singh, YB Lim Kit Siang and YAB Lim Guan Eng if they are aware of the goings on in Sarawak. Actions of the Sarawak DAP in the past few weeks show that Sarawak DAP is probably preparing to form a Sarawakian-based opposition party.

This stems from their recent actions in wanting the Sarawak government to declarein the state assembly that Umno be banned from Sarawak. In essence this would mean banning all peninsular Malaysian-based parties including DAP, PAS and PKR.

The Bon Fire team sees this as a clear sign that Sarawak DAP is preparing for the formation of a Sarawakian-based opposition party. This move will give the ‘new’ opposition party a say over what was previously held by PAS and PKR, as well as the ones that they took over from DAP.

All the top leaders of Umno have reiterated that they have no intentions to come to Sarawak and both the new chief minister and the new governor of Sarawak have clearly stated the same. The Bon Fire Team has also explained clearly recently that as long as Sarawak-based BN parties deliver the mandate for the BN, Umno will have no desire to come to Sarawak.

It is clear that Sarawak DAP has been dealt a raw deal in terms of representation in the DAP’s own central executive committee (CEC). Sarawak only has one representative in the CEC. Conversely Sarawak BN has the best representation ratio ever in the history of the Malaysian cabinet.

The recent sacking of a DAP assemblyperson in Miri by peninsular Malaysian officials also indicates that Sarawak DAP is fed up of being treated as second class despite all its contribution to the so-called political tsunami.

Then the actions of another member of Sarawak DAP in filing an injunction to ‘stop’ the appointment of the new governor. The member seems to have done so mechanically, even though knowing that the courts, for want of evidence and other legal conditions, will definitely set the injunction aside. They continued as if being remotely controlled.

The powers that be in the corridors of DAP must have been the instigators. They just cannot fathom the political maturity and stability that exists in Sarawak and desperately want to import their brand of confrontational theatrics.

Sarawak DAP must be fed up by the constant interference by their peninsular Malaysian counterparts and as such the Bon Fire Team would like to ask Sarawak DAP, are you forming a Sarawak-based opposition party?
