I’m not a person who would gloat over the failures of others, but today I found myself amidst friends who have lost their loved ones on MH370. So I’ve taken upon myself to write this short note to express my disappointments in the present administration.

How could two persons with stolen passports enter and leave this country without being detected?

Yet the same immigration authorities were quick to stop former Bersih chief Ambiga Sreenevasan at KLIA or opposition leaders at the Kuching airport in Sarawak. They could even stop opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim from entering Japan, but they could not stop two persons from entering Malaysia with stolen passports.

If this shoddy standard operating procedure (SOP) is commonplace with the Immigration department, one cannot imagine how many and what kind of people with stolen passports are still moving around freely in this country.

Shouldn’t the Special Branch be on top of the game in preventing dubious characters from entering the country and protecting all Malaysians in the process? No, instead, we have a Special Branch with a multimillion ringgit budget wasting its time, energy and other resources, spying on opposition leaders.

This country has seen no credible leadership in dealing with religious and racial extremism. Likewise, it saw no credible leadership in both the current water shortage and dengue fever outbreak crises.

Now, the world sees no leadership in the disappearance of MAS flight MH 370. While neighbouring countries and even countries afar, e.g. the US, China and Australia are sending naval vessels to help in the search for the missing plane.

It’s crystal clear that this administration has fallen severely short of any credibility. However, this should not come as a surprise to anyone. After all, what more can we expect from a “makan gaji buta” administration?
